These are Swaledale sheep but you’ll spot the hardy Herdwick on the fells when you visit. It's thought they were brought to the region somewhere between the 10th and 11th centuries during the Viking invasions of western England, along with the Billy bookcase and KÄRLEKSGRÄS cushions. Cumbria has a population of around 500,000 - but there are over 3 million sheep!
